1. Hormiga Culonas (Fried ants)

These are literally some BIG ANTS! Hormigas Culonas are world famous

fat-bottomed ants, an unusual delicacy from the department of Santander in Colombia. Originally harvested by the Guane Indians as a protein source, today it takes about five hours to gather the ants from their nests in springtime. While living there for a year I was pressured into trying them. They tasted like lightly salted popcorn. It wasn't only the taste that surprised me. I saw people having it between slices of bread like a sandwich. That's when I actually 'punked' out. Lol!

P.S. -They are a palatable snack with an ice cold beer.

2. Goat brain (Jamaican style)

If you have not tried this before YOU NEED TO!

I had this a couple years back at a family reunion in Clarendon, Jamaica. My uncle killed a goat and roasted the brain along with some intestines on a wood fire. He then proceeded to season it with salt and black pepper and prepared it like scrambled eggs. It was MOUTH-WATERING!

3. lechona (Colombian style)

I told myself that I didn't eat pork. RIGHT!

All my life I convinced myself that I didn't eat pork, but when I tried it for the first and last time. It was succulent and flavorful. The baby pig is stuffed with yellow peas, green onion, yellow rice and spices, all cooked up in a brick oven for around 10 hours. It’s exquisitely delicious. The presentation of this meal is something to talk about, you would be walking on the road and there is whole pig looking at you from a cook shop ready to be SERVED!

4. salchipapa

This is what you call bizarre food! After eating this for the first time I think I got a food hangover. This wonderful debility is a mixture of fried potatoes, mayonnaise, cheese, ketchup, sausage, bacon, pork skin, sweet corn, mustard, potato chips, more sweet sauce, pineapples and some more sauce.....

THESE PEOPLE MADE ME TRY SALCHIPAPA FOR THE FIRST TIME. It was a cute little restaurant in Barichara Colombia.

5. Carne Asada

(Latin american style grilled steak\Beef)

Carne de asada is a marinated grilled steak that is loved by the typical Latin American family. This meal is almost always on the menu once there is a family get together. Thin slices of beef are placed on a grill until charred and succulent. This is served with boiled potatoes or arepas and aji picante (A popular hot sauce mixed with various herbs and spices). Very very delicious!
